Profile

  • Experience in senior positions in four very diverse organisations concerned with the delivery of services: Home Office in respect of 40 police forces and 50 fire brigades; European Telecommunications Standards Institute for some 300 member companies in respect of standardisation programmes and NTL in respect of advanced commercial services in the telecommunications and broadcasting markets (18 months as Director on the Board of NTL Ltd) and Vodafone in respect of long term strategy of a large global company.
  • Wide experience in international organisations and dealing with the UK and foreign Governments. Experience in creating new organisations and radical organisation change.
  • Ability to challenge and achieve outstanding results within a “democracy” context has been demonstrated in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (a member type organisation), GSM (digital cellular radio, one of Europe’s most successful high technology projects) and the Digital Video Broadcasting Project (digital television).
  • Good understanding of the “whole system” in the field of high technology ie the inter-relationships between the political, industrial and technological domains at both the UK and European levels.
  • Huge experience in “high strategy” with good hit rate in respect of technology calls
